The human brain, just like the body, is subject to aging. Some scientists even believe that aging of the body in most cases begins with the brain. But in the latter case, it is expressed not in the appearance of wrinkles, but in the loss of neurons, which has a detrimental effect on all, without exception, processes occurring in our body. We can say that the rate at which our body ages is dictated by the brain. So does the brain have an age?

It used to be thought that stress has a detrimental effect on nerve cells. There is even a popular expression that “nerve cells do not recover”. However, stress and overwork slows down this process. Therefore, those who are under constant stress do indeed run the risk that their brains will age significantly faster. Also at risk are those people who neglect the correct lifestyle, abuse bad habits (alcohol, smoking), do not monitor their diet.

In order for the brain to remain young as long as possible, it is enough to adhere to the simplest rules that will avoid senile dementia. After all, it does not come at once, but is a gradual process.

1. Do not forget about constant development

The human brain can develop throughout life. To do this, one must not forget about the benefits of regular reading, searching and studying new information. It is very useful for the brain to learn foreign languages or learn to play musical instruments. Agree, all this in modern realities and with the possibilities of the Internet is available to people of all ages.

2. Eat right

Everything we love so much: fast food, fatty and high-calorie foods - kill neuronal cells. If you want your brain to stay young and keep developing, reconsider your diet.

It should be dominated by:

  • antioxidants (vegetable oils, vegetables, fruits and seafood),
  • cereals,
  • red wine in moderation
  • foods containing folic acid (spinach, cabbage, greens),
  • some dark chocolate and green tea.

The most beneficial berries for our brain are blueberries and cranberries. You should also reduce or completely abandon canned food (including homemade preparations) in the diet. Canned food is not the best food for the brain, since it contains nitrosamines - substances that contribute to the rupture of the blood-brain barrier of the brain and the formation of plaques in the vessels.

3. Engage in intellectual activity

We are talking about the same multitasking mode, finding new non-standard solutions that can often be found in job advertisements. If you are on duty working in such conditions, you are in luck, because the aging of the brain is not in danger of you a priori. Everyone else can be advised to "strain" your brain more often - to lay new routes, solve puzzles and crosswords, play various quizzes.

4. Train fine motor skills

It's good if knitting, embroidery or beading are among your hobbies - you constantly help your brain not to grow old. If you don't have any of the above in your arsenal, you can simply write by hand. This is a very useful activity, which we completely forgot about with the advent of computers. You need to write regularly, at least a couple of times a week, and preferably one page every day. This is a very powerful exercise for brain development.

5. Go in for sports

Physical activity helps the brain stay young is a scientifically proven fact. But you need to understand that despite all the usefulness of yoga, Pilates and fitness, you need a slightly different load. It is given to the brain by walking at a fast pace and running. Choose what is more relevant to you and rejuvenate.

6. Observe the daily routine

Another important condition that prevents brain aging. Years of scientific research has shown that proper sleep helps the brain to rid itself of neurotoxins. Lack of sleep leads to diseases such as Parkison's and Alzheimer's, as it affects memory impairment. Therefore, you need to go to bed on time and sleep the prescribed number of hours.

As for the question of how to determine the age of the brain, then on the Internet you can find a lot of tests on a similar topic. Most of them are entertaining and have no serious background. But this does not mean that they should not be passed, they just do not need to be completely trusted

In fact, the following factors indicate how old the brain is:

  • memorization of information - how quickly or, conversely, how long it takes for you;
  • concentration of attention - how long can you concentrate on one thing or lesson;
  • reading speed, which can be increased by reading more;
  • the presence of a large vocabulary, which is also replenished through reading;
  • the ability to solve non-standard problems (this also includes the search for solutions).

Test yourself on these points and correct your reality if necessary.
