How does the thought of looking for a job make you feel? The thought that soon you will have to draw up a resume, "surf" work sites, go through telephone interviews and go to interviews in companies unfamiliar to you … Do you feel joy in anticipation of the upcoming changes? Overall, what are your feelings about looking for a job with a “+” or “-”?
Let's be honest. In 99% of cases, such an event as a job search evokes not bright emotions, but more often doubts, fears, and self-doubt. Uncertainty is not just about what you will find no worse, but often even about what you will find. And if you are already out of work, then the feeling of separation from the general working mass, scraping in your soul, will certainly varnish this whole super cocktail. Why does the attitude of the majority of job seekers to job search develop in this way?
According to HeadHunter statistics, 50% of applicants in 2018 did not change their job or position, versus 35% of those who did. The remaining 15% are promotions, transfers within the company, as well as reductions. And this situation is similar to 2017, although the share of those who did not change their jobs grew by an insignificant 4 percentage points
The fact is that the majority of job seekers fundamentally misunderstand the job search process. It was originally flooded crookedly. And as you know, if the foundation is crookedly filled, then it is extremely difficult to build even walls on it! Almost impossible. So, most often in the field of employment, "buildings" are akin to "utility rooms", although at first, perhaps, they dreamed of "white-stone wards."
An important thought: the position of the majority of applicants, let's say … asking them to take, and not offering themselves with dignity and their golden head or hands.
Of course, our society has tried very hard here. And he continues to try to this day. Being “unemployed” is extremely uncomfortable and stressful in itself. If you are out of work, then you are like an "outsider". You are aloof from society, because … not like everyone else. There is a feeling of discomfort from the fact that there is no support, you do not feel the soil under your feet. And then what kind of pleasure can we talk about when searching? Obviously not about any. The only thing you want to do is to emerge from this state as soon as possible.
In many ways, it is the discomfort from being in the status of unemployed that pushes us to run headlong to the very first interview that comes along, afraid to ask an extra question to the HR manager during a telephone interview, so as not to scare the titmouse, miraculously sitting on our shoulder.
We run there, out of breath, plop down in a chair opposite an important employer and keep in mind, like a sacred tablet, a list of the correct answers to every possible question from him. We greedily catch, like a fish with our mouth, every mean word of the employer, a priori agreeing with everything he said, while we do not hear at all inside ourselves the timid whisper of our inner Self, telling us that “this is not what you need”. And when we receive a call with the coveted “yes”, we begin to convince ourselves that this work is not so bad.
How we usually look for work
Conventionally, there are two approaches to job search, which are generally similar in terms of the scheme, but have a big difference in the perception of the process itself. And as a result - radically different results.
Most are looking for work in so-called two - dimensional space. The two-dimensional coordinate system known from the general education school is a kind of full face, front side, wrapper.
All events here unfold in the external picture of the world, and the focus of the applicant's attention is directed to the employer. I got fired or quit, started looking for a job, wrote a resume, sent a response, went to an interview, passed or did not pass it. Eventually went to work. Sooner or later. And he began to work. Exactly until the cycle repeats again. And it will certainly repeat itself. Nevertheless, two-dimensional space is a very well-known and well-trodden path that a good 90% of applicants follow.
It is precisely within the framework of two-dimensional space that the seeker … asks. Here the job seeker will always feel a cut below any ordinary employer.
An important point: Finding a job in a 2D space is always stressful. Your focus is entirely on the outside. You only care about what the employer thinks about, how he perceives you, and whether he liked you, and whether he will take you, etc., etc.
Nevertheless, within the framework of this approach, you can find a prestigious, well-paid job. Only here you often have to forget about pleasure. Such work - it is like in the song: "I'm pregnant, but this is temporary." Since you chose the job without being guided by your own desires, it will not bring you pleasure either. This means that you will not stay long at this work, and if you do, then with extremely negative devastating bonuses. This path is a kind of “soulless” scheme. Dry drawing.
Changing algorithms
Along with two-dimensional space, as everyone knows from the same school bench, there is also three-dimensional space. The same 3D. And now this is not just a frontal view … Your inner state is an invisible, but highly perceptible third coordinate here. Your attitude, with which, in fact, you go to the interview every time. Your perception and attitude to everything that happens at a given moment in time. And it is this, and not your resume, that dictates the entire course of the game. Accordingly, its outcome.
Simply put, in a two-dimensional space, you bring yourself to the employer purely physically: your experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, education, in the end. Well, actually, what he asks for in the requirements for the vacancy.
In 3D space, you carry yourself to the employer in the fullest sense. We are not only a physical shell, a body. And the employer first reads your mood and only then lowers his gaze to the resume.
An important thought: 3D space is two-dimensional space plus your inner state. The state in which you take the search lightly and do not perceive it as a problem. You have no inner tension, and you do not look forward to the completion of the process.
You perceive employment as an interesting and educational activity in which every step captures and captivates. That is, the attitude towards finding a job in 3D space comes down to … a game. You perceive the search for a job as a game from which you get absolute pleasure in the present moment. This allows events to unfold naturally, and therefore in the best way for you. It is within this space that you have the opportunity to find your favorite job.
You become deeply aware that employment is not when you have to ask, because it is so. Employment is a two-way street where you are not only chosen, but you also choose. And this last choice is more important than all the others: you choose, choose for yourself and choose the best.
Step by step job search plan
- To solemnly celebrate such a happy and fateful event in life as dismissal. It doesn't matter whether it happened of its own accord or not.
- Give yourself the right to do nothing for a while. You can conclude a contract with yourself according to a well-known scheme, indicating a "period of idleness" that is comfortable for you.
- Realize that you and only you are the main center within your universe. Microverse. This means that any choice should first of all come from you, and not from someone outside. Even if you received only one “yes” from the employer for a month of active searches, you still choose: whether to say “yes” to him or not to speak and look further.
- Only after point 3, start writing your resume. This greatly increases your chances of success.
- Don't be afraid to ask the questions you are interested in during your phone interview. Otherwise, you risk losing time.
- During the interview, keep your focus on your choice. This will help you let go of all unnecessary expectations, and therefore increase your chances of success.
