One of our favorites is the vinaigrette, a richly flavored salad that is complex and easy to prepare. It combines such different products, but together they create a wonderful harmony. Sweet and bitter, salty, spicy and insipid: everything is just like in our life. The main thing is to find the perfect proportion of ingredients.

Dolce beets

All people strive for a sweet life. What is behind this concept? Beach, sea and yacht? Wealth, entertainment, fashion brands? Youth and beauty? Social events, bohemianism? Lack of worries and difficulties? In general, not life, but raspberries (in our case, beets) - bright, for your pleasure. For many, dolce vita is associated with eternal happiness, a celebration of the soul. Why is it that the lucky few, having reached this earthly paradise, often plunge into a maelstrom of despondency and depression, suffer from alcohol and drug addiction and even commit suicide? It would seem, live and be happy - you have drawn a lucky ticket. Maybe the reason is that you can't eat only sweets?

We strive to have pleasure, but we cannot experience it continuously. In the famous rat experiment by James Olds and Peter Milner, animals spent hours pressing a lever that closed the current in the pleasure center. In their pursuit of constant pleasure, they forgot about food, drink and sex and died. Similar experiments were performed on monkeys and gave the same results.

A person strives for joy and receives it as a reward for anything: hard work, pains of creativity, exhausting training. This is a kind of dessert, but a cake diet is unhealthy. When dolce vita is abused, addiction occurs, the sweetness turns into a bland routine. Try drinking tea without sugar for a week, and then add just one spoon - the tea will seem very sweet to you. If you are used to putting three tablespoons of sugar in a glass, you will not perceive the drink as sugary.

Some bitter onions

Bitter onions, it makes us cry. Why do we put it in a salad? To the question "Where does a person begin?" the famous philosopher Merab Mamardashvili replied: "From lamentation for the deceased." The loss of loved ones, parting with loved ones, quarrels and conflicts - all this hurts us painfully, leaving deep scars in our souls.

There is an eastern parable about a mother who buried her son. The grief was great, and the grief-stricken mother turned to the sage. He said that he could return her son to her if the woman showed three houses in which no one had died. The task seemed easy, the mother went in search. But no matter what house she entered, in each house the owners told her that they had buried either a son, or a sister, or a father. Gradually, the woman began to understand that the death of loved ones was inevitable, and was able to come to terms with her loss.

In the scale of life changes by T. Holmes and R. Reich (1967), events associated with loss occupy a leading position in terms of the degree of stress. But like any existential experience, grief also contains positive potential. For example, loss teaches us to value more loved ones who have left, and those who remain close, as well as life in general. Experiencing grief, we reveal the depths of our souls, we set priorities. Losses increase our level of empathy. After suffering a loss, people feel the feelings of others more subtly and more often feel a desire to help. In general, bitterness is an inevitable companion of life, which means it is a necessary ingredient for our vinaigrette.

Unleavened potatoes

In one zoo, a bear was kept in a cramped cage for a long time, he could only walk four steps there. For days he walked back and forth in the cage. After the repair of the zoo, the bear was moved to a new spacious aviary. He carefully took the first step, then the second, third, fourth … And then he stopped and walked four steps in the opposite direction. The rods in the memory of the beast were stronger than the real ones.

Many people value stability above all else: in relationships, in income, in work. And even though there is no love between the spouses for a long time, the earnings are not enough for the most necessary things, there are no career prospects - but nothing needs to be changed, day after day they go smoothly, smoothly and … fresh. And divorce is scary, starting a business is risky, and will there be such a team and a boss at the new job? Life by habit is boring, but comfortable. Potatoes do not have a bright taste, but precisely because of their freshness, they are a versatile product. We can eat potatoes every day, and we don’t get tired of them. For many, this is the basis of the diet, a certain foundation.

But living on one foundation is not very comfortable. Living in a pattern and the absence of vivid emotions causes depression. The routine draws in deeper and deeper, and the chances of breaking out of it diminish every day. Actions brought to automatism lead to physical and mental degradation. What is opposed to stability? Chaos. From the school physics course, we know that entropy is constantly growing and leads the system to destruction if it is not resisted. Can we abandon orderliness in favor of change, do we want to turn our lives into unpredictability and chaos? No? Then we simply have to add fresh potatoes to our vinaigrette.

Whole Cucumber Salt

Since ancient times, people have endowed such a simple thing as salt with special strength and value. Essence, wisdom, and purity were called salt. "Salt of the Earth" - the best representatives of humanity. "What's the salt?" - it's about the meaning. And purposes. But many do not put them even for the near future.

Meanwhile, experts from Tohoku University of Japan have proven that motivation, goal-setting and meaningfulness prolong life. For seven years, scientists have observed a group of 43 thousand people aged 40 to 79 years. Of these, 5% admitted that they have no goals. During the experiment, it turned out that among those living aimlessly, there are much more sick and suicides (mortality is 1.5 times higher, twice as many heart and brain diseases).

In other words, when there is no goal, the self-destruction mechanism is activated. However, turning your life into hard and painstaking work to achieve your goal is hardly reasonable: you can lose the joy of every day. Salt is a very interesting product: it is tasteless without it, but if the dish is too salted, it is impossible to eat it. So, salt the vinaigrette, but carefully.

Add pepper

According to the classic recipe, the vinaigrette is dressed with a sauce of vegetable oil, vinegar and pepper, which gives it a bright taste. Without this spiciness, your favorite salad will miss something. Back in the seventies of the last century, scientists conducted an interesting experiment: several monkeys were placed in a cage with pillars, one of which was lightly shocked while conquering it. Surprisingly, it was this "dangerous" pillar that the monkeys loved more than others. Most likely, the pleasure from risk is biologically inherent in us, because otherwise development would be impossible: for a part of the population, the goal should always be more important than life.

For most people, stability is necessary, but the acuity is very attractive. And it's not difficult to find something to do with a share of extreme, but without real danger. These are quests and attractions, diving and hot air ballooning, exotic travel and sexual experiments, everything that causes an adrenaline rush and makes your heart pound.

Is there any benefit from extreme? Of course, after all, in addition to pleasure, a person acquires faith in his strength and courage, self-esteem rises, complexes and fears are overcome. This, in turn, gives a feeling of confidence and freedom. Often times, the thrill we experience allows us to rethink values and overcome stereotypes. But there are also negative consequences: in the absence of self-control, you will need to “pepper” life more and more. There is a need to increase the dose of emitted adrenaline, which is fraught with nervous exhaustion. Conclusion: as in the case of salt, add a little pepper to our vinaigrette.

Mix well

You can put in the salad and bright impressions carrots and tender peas - all to your taste. There is very little left: to choose the ideal proportions for the vinaigrette. We put in a stable base, add thrills, sweet rewards and a little bitterness for contrast, do not forget to salt. You can enjoy balanced taste and full life.
