Video: TV Series "Kitchen": A Delicious Comedy With A Philosophical Connotation - Reviews
"Kitchen" is an original Russian television series in the genre of a situational comedy (sitcom). From 2012 to 2016, six seasons were filmed, 20 episodes each. The final sixth season of the series brought STS to the top of the TV broadcast in Moscow. From the first to the last episode, about 20% of all viewers watched it.
The main character of the series is an ambitious young chef from Voronezh who has come to conquer Moscow. True, Moscow is not looking forward to him very much, and he will have to prove his importance and necessity for a long time not only in the kitchen of one of the best French restaurants, but also among colleagues, new friends and girls. The internal "cuisine" of the restaurant is diverse: there are passions, curiosities, and even dramas. And each character is bright, as in the typology of personalities from a psychology textbook.
What is so good about the TV series "Kitchen"?
High-quality humor
I love the saying: "Humor should be at least funny and as smart as possible." In this series, humor, albeit sometimes rude and brutal, alcoholic and sexy, is still of high quality. Jokes are easy to perceive, humor "holds". The comedy of situations is close to the literary genres of anecdote and feuilleton, and here they are well sustained. The quality of humor is focused on the "middle class" - people who are well educated, earn enough money (or strive to do so), understand modern trends in cinema and literature. Indeed, that electoral part of the audience, who can rarely be found watching sitcoms, became the audience of the series. It is also worth noting the lack of offscreen laughter: the viewer is considered intelligent enough to know where to laugh.
Plot connectivity
Sitcoms don't always have plot consistency. Sometimes heroes appear and disappear "without warning", leaving the audience bewildered. “Kitchen” is favorably distinguished by the consistency of the storytelling, the continuation of the storyline from the first to the last episode both in the season and in the series as a whole. This allows you to show the characters of the characters and the relationship between them in a more interesting and voluminous way, and also (possibly) better "holds" the viewer. Although this advantage would not have worked without the first one.
Interesting images of heroes
All the main characters are accentuators or even psychopaths. They all have "prominent" personality traits that make the images bright and recognizable. Of course, in this genre, the characters cannot have any other quality: by definition, they must be exaggerated, exaggerated. But this is what helps to recognize in them someone from your acquaintances and laugh heartily.
Nastya is a vegetarian, anxious, exalted, sensitive. Barinov is an alcoholic psychopath, capable of destroying everything around him, but at the same time an aesthetic epicurean. Maxim is an infantile "do not care", but he tries to learn life and life. Victoria is an independent, self-confident, self-made woman. And the remarkably controversial image of a bum living at a restaurant? An intelligent, cultured person, expressing himself exclusively in a "high syllable"!
Philosophical implications
Each episode ends with a little philosophical discourse on behalf of the main character of the series. This reasoning "brings together" the series together, allows you to look at funny events in a different way, gives "depth" and completeness. As a rule, philosophical reasoning gives "ambiguity" to the situations that happened: "Life constantly tests us for strength. Some manage, some don't: for some, life is a kaleidoscope of adventures, for others it is a series of disappointments. In any case, life teaches you to always be ready for unexpected turns."
Music
This is what makes the show a "high quality" show. For the use of just one song by Beyoncé, the creators paid about a million rubles! The series uses both classical music and classics of more modern, various genres, and recently appeared melodies.
What's wrong with the TV series "Kitchen"?
According to viewers, the disadvantages of the series are as follows:
- when watching, you want to eat all the time
- not to come off (and time is a valuable resource);
- some jokes seem vulgar;
- negative comments were received from people with disabilities regarding the definition “disabled!” which is often used in the series;
- contraindicated in children because of some scenes (which became more by the final seasons);
- dragged on with the ending;
- and … the downside is that it's over!
