Video: Men See Right Through You - Research

It turns out that just by looking at the face of a beautiful lady, you can fairly accurately determine whether she has a tendency to start romances on the side. This is the conclusion reached by scientists from the University of Western Australia, whose research was recently published in PLOS One.
First, the authors invited women 20–42 years old - they were photographed and asked if they had ever cheated. 17 out of 34 models admitted to being wrong. Then they invited men (18–35 years old). First, the participants were asked to look at the photographs (portrait and full-length) and, on a seven-point scale, rate how they think these girls are in a relationship. Meanwhile, another group of 44 volunteers using the same photos were asked to determine the degree of attractiveness of the young ladies and their reliability (whether they inspire confidence). After that, the first 43 participants had to complete one more task - "forced choice": still choose the most correct of the pair from the photo.
In the second part of the experiment, 60 men 18–35 years old first filled out questionnaires, which gave an idea of what qualities they value in regular partners in the first place and what place reliability and loyalty occupy in them. Then, these participants were asked to look at the same pairs of photographs as the first group and choose which of the girls is correct and which is not.
As a result, it turned out that really - men know how to calculate cheaters. But only under certain conditions. For example, in the first part of the experiment, when the volunteers looked at individual photographs, their guesswork rarely matched reality. It was quite difficult for them to give full-length photographs, perhaps because their faces were less visible. But when comparing female portraits, the participants were much less likely to make mistakes. Moreover, the attractiveness of the girls did not affect the results in any way. By the way, the individual preferences of the men themselves, too - those who value fidelity especially highly did not surpass those who do not attach much importance to it.
Another thing is surprising, the authors of the study admit: men manage with good accuracy to identify faithful and not very women using just photographs, but at the same time they almost always "miss" when they make judgments based on behavioral information.
